4-13. Air Cleaner Housing Vertical Guide Rework.

General.

Misalignment between the air cleaner housing vertical guide bar and filter element

locating pin causes an improper filter seal. T o correct this problem the following

procedure must be performed.

(1) Tools and Equipment Required:

Primer - NSN 8010-00-161-7425, Spec-TT-P636

Paint - NSN 8010-00-111-7937, MIL-E-52798

(b)

Air-Vat Vacuum Tool - NSN 7910-00-807-3704

(c)

Hand Grinder - NSN-5310-00-889-8979

(d)

Grinding Wheel - 2" x 1/2", 18500 RPM min for 3/8" arbor.

(e)

Cut-off Wheel - 2" x 1/8", 18500 RPM min for 3/8" arbor.

Scribe

(g)

Scale or Ruler

(h)

(i)

Masking Tape

Cardboard

(j)

Rags

(k)

Approved Eye Protection

(l)

(2) Fabricate template (fig. 4-27).

NOTE

Template can be fabricated to simplify measurement and

scribing of guide bar.

Rework procedure can be accomplished without template by

measuring directly on guide bar.

(3) Remove air cleaner filter element (TM-20).

NOTE

If template was fabricated, go to step (4). If template was

not fabricated, go to step (5).

(4) Position template on air cleaner housing and scribe left and right vertical guide

bars as indicated (view A). Go to step (6).
