Unbalanced or loose flywheel

Tighten flywheel
ENGINE SMOKES:

Insufficient air
Black or gray smoke
Check for intake restriction

Insufficient fuel
Black or gray smoke
a) Check for fuel line
restriction
b) Refer to engine manual

Restriction in exhaust
Black or gray smoke
Inspect and correct

Excess lubrication oil
White or blue smoke
Remove extra oil
LOW ENGINE OIL
PRESSURE:

Defective oil pressure gauge

Install new gauge

Insufficient oil flow

a) Check oil filter, changing if
necessary
b) Oil suction line restriction
c) Low in crankcase oil
d) Wrong grade of oil for
weather conditions

Diesel fuel in lubrication oil

Locate and correct leak.
Change lubrication oil and
filter

Oil pump malfunction

a) Replace oil pump suction
pipe
b) Clean or repair oil pump
relief valve
c) Repair or replace oil pump
5.
Cooling system malfunction

Insufficient coolant
Check coolant level, adding if
necessary

Dirty radiator
Steam clean radiator
c)
Dirty engine
Steam clean engine exterior
d)
Loose or worn fan belts
Replace or adjust fan belts
