MAINTENANCE ALLOCATION
Section I. INTRODUCTION
B-1.
General
This appendix provides a summary of the maintenance operations for KY-883/GSC.  It authorizes categories of
maintenance for specific maintenance functions on repairable items and components and the tools and equipment
required to perform each function .  This appendix may be used as an aid in planning maintenance operations .
B-2.
Maintenance Functions
Maintenance functions will be limited to and defined as follows:
a.  Inspect. To determine the serviceability of an item by comparing its physical, mechanical, and electrical
characteristics with established standards through examination.
b.  Test.  -To verify serviceability and to detect incipient failure by measuring the mechanical or electrical
characteristics of an item and comparing these characteristics with prescribed standards. Precise identification of the
specific incipient failure is accomplished by troubleshooting/fault location of the repairable item to identify the failed
component.
c.  Service. Operations required periodically to keep an item in proper operating condition such as to clean, to
preserve, to paint, or to lubricate.
d.  Adjust. Maintain within prescribed limits by bringing-into proper or exact position, or by setting the operating
characteristics to the specified parameters.
e.  Aliqn. To adjust specified variable elements of an item to bring about optimum or desired performance.
f.
Calibrate. To determine and cause corrections to be made in the readings of instruments or test equipment
used in precise measurement. Consists of the comparison of two instruments, one of which is a certified
standard of known accuracy, to detect and adjust any discrepancy in the accuracy of the instrument being
compared with the certified standard.
g.  Install. To set up for use in an operational environment such as a site or vehicle.
h.  Replace. To replace unserviceable items with serviceable like items.
i.
Repair. To restore an item to serviceable condition through correction of a specific failure or unserviceable
condition.  This function includes, but is not limited to welding, grinding, riveting, straightening, and
replacement of running spare type items such as fuses and indicators.
