(2)  Initial allowances for maintenance float items (recoverability codes F, H, and D) for FMF and appropriate
post and stations are as furnished by initial issue actions. Changes to maintenance replacement rates resulting from
actual usage may require recomputation maintenance float allowances by holding units. Recomputation should be made
in accordance with MCO 4442.3_.

SECTION IV - REFERENCE DESIGNATION INDEX. The reference designation index lists the electrical and
electronic parts which are referenced on schematics, with applicable figure and index number for each reference
designation.
a.  REFERENCE DESIGNATION Column.  This column lists the reference designations, in alphanumeric
sequence, which have been assigned to electrical/electronic parts. Refer to USA Standard Reference Designations of
Electrical and Electronic Parts and Equipment, Y32.16 for a complete explanation of reference designations.
b.  FIGURE & INDEX NUMBER Column. This column lists the figure and index number for each reference
designated item. When a part has not been assigned an index number, the figure and index number of the preceding part
in the MPL is used with the letter F (standing for follows) preceding the figure number; for example, F7-6.

ABBREVIATIONS. The abbreviations used throughout this manual are in accordance with MIL-STD-I 2.

SIMILAR ASSEMBLIES.  When two different but similar assemblies have 51 percent or more of their parts
identical, both assemblies can be illustrated with one figure and listed with one maintenance parts list. If the parts or
quantity of parts used are different for the two assemblies, both parts are listed and their use is defined in the
DESCRIPTION column.
